It's Not Called "Hell's Kitchen" for Nothing

Local chef Jacqueline Baldassari remains in the competition after Gordon Ramsay berates her for undercooked chicken.

Local chef Jacqueline Baldassari got Chef Gordon Ramsay's attention this week on FOX's Hell's Kitchen. Unfortunately, it was not in the way she wanted.  Baldassari is known in Princeton both as the roundsman at the Institute for Advanced Study and as the woman who created the new food menu at the Ivy Inn. She lives in Florence, N.J. The episode began well for women's team, who beat the men in a challenge to run a 3K followed followed by meal preparation. As a reward, the women were whisked off to California's wine country by private jet.  "Never in my life have I flown on a private jet, I'm feeling like a G6," said Baldassari, who works as a roundsman at the Institute for Advanced Study and created the new food menu for The Ivy Inn. And …

Local Chef Still in "Hell's Kitchen"

It was the second episode of the season, which features Jacqueline Baldassari as one of 20 contestants vying for a $250,000 job as head chef at Caesar's Palace Las Vegas.

New Jersey chef Jacqueline Baldassari stayed mostly out of the limelight on Tuesday's episode of Hell's Kitchen.  That may have been a good thing. Chef Gordon Ramsay often berates contestants he feels are sub-par on the reality TV cooking competition on FOX.  Baldassari is known in Princeton both as the roundsman at the Institute for Advanced Study and as the woman who created the new food menu at the Ivy Inn. She lives in Florence, N.J. Ramsay did not disappoint on Tuesday, criticizing those who could not extract lobster meat from the shellfish during a timed competition, burn off white wine from risotto or cook scallops properly.  It was the second episode of the season, which features Baldassari as one of 20 contestants vying for a $…

From the Ivy Inn to Hell's Kitchen

The winner of Hell's Kitchen will earn the position of head chef at Ramsay's gastropub at Caesar's Palace Las Vegas, with an annual salary of $250,000.

If you have to go through Hell to get to Heaven, this could be Jacqueline Baldassari's chance.  Baldassari, 27, recently created the new food menu at Princeton's Ivy Inn and has been a chef at several local restaurants- she currently cooks at the Institute for Advanced Study. Beginning tonight (Tuesday), the 27-year-old from Florence, N.J. will compete against 19 other chefs on season 11 of FOX's reality show Hell's Kitchen.  In Chef Gordon Ramsay's kitchen, contestants are pushed to their breaking point and steadily eliminated each week. But the last chef standing gets a pretty sweet prize- the position of head chef at Ramsay's gastropub at Caesar's Palace Las Vegas, with an annual salary of $250,000.  On Hell's Kitchen, Baldassari says…

The Ivy Inn Launches Full-Service Menu

The pub-style menu focuses on fresh, high-quality food at reasonable prices.

The Ivy Inn, an East Nassau Street staple known for trivia night, live bands and inexpensive drinks in a casual atmosphere, now offers a full food menu with items ranging between $3-$10. The two-page menu runs the gamut from salads and beet salad and vegan crab cakes to mac n’ cheese, pizza, burgers and chicken tenders. The bar began serving food on Monday, Jan. 21, said Geoff Aton, who partnered with Ivy Inn owner co-owner Rich Ryan to renovate a former storage room behind the bar and transform into a kitchen. Aton and Ryan met a few years ago when Aton was commuting to New York City for his job as an options trader. He would often stop by the Ivy Inn after work. “I live in Riverside,” Aton said, who is married to Heather and has two …

Fundraiser Nets $4,370 for Lawrenceville Boy

Liam Barnosky, who was born with a rare liver disease, underwent transplant surgery last week.

A weekend fundraiser at the Ivy Inn in Princeton raised more than $4,000 for the Barnosky family of Lawrenceville. The money will go towards the care of four-year-old Liam Barnosky, who was born with a rare liver disease and recently underwent a liver transplant.  About 60 people came to the fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 30, which featured an open bar, hors d'oeuvres and live music courtesy of Ivy Inn owner Richard Ryan, Barnosky family friend Nicole Suozzi said. Although Jeff Barnosky, his wife Jennifer Lambert, and Liam could not attend the fundraiser, they sent a letter that was read aloud on Saturday: "We are so sorry we can’t be with you, today. We can’t begin to thank you enough for your incredible support. We truly are at a loss …

Fundraiser Today for 4-Year-Old Lawrenceville Boy with Rare Liver Disease

The event at the Ivy Inn today, Saturday June 30, will raise funds for the care of 4-year-old who just recently received a liver transplant.

When Liam Barnosky was nine weeks old, a routine doctor’s visit revealed a rare liver disease that, if untreated, would lead to liver failure. The only sign that his parents, Jeffrey Barnosky and Jennifer Lambert of Lawrenceville, had was that Liam was slightly jaundiced, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. Liam was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a disease that blocks the ducts that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder, slowing growth and weight gain and eventually leading to liver failure. Just a week after diagnosis, Liam underwent a surgery to clear his liver ducts and improve bile drainage. Still, the disease limited Liam’s activities like playing with his fraternal twin, Finn. “We were very careful about roughhousing,” …
