New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson wants residents and elected officials to weigh in quickly on the conceptual plan to ease traffic along Route 1 in West Windsor and Plainsboro. "If we can get this (project) into the (federal transportation) program, if everyone buys into it, it will be a Herculean task," Simpson said. "So the message that I want to deliver to everybody here is get on board quickly or say no quickly." Simpson spoke to a packed crowd at a breakfast meeting the Nassau Inn on Wednesday, hosted by the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce. Both the Borough and Township received grants for road improvements.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation has awarded money to Princeton for road improvements and sidewalks. “The Christie Administration strongly supports funding for Local Aid because it understands how important it is for government at all levels to provide safe streets and roads for motorists and pedestrians alike,” said NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson. “These grants advance local projects without placing a burden on local property taxpayers.” In Princeton Township, the grant of $261,676 will be used to improve drainage and reconstruct the southern portion of Great Road West between Stuart Road and the Great Road, Township Engineering Assistant Anthony Soriano said. A Patch poll shows roughly 80 percent of respondents oppose a state plan to temporarily close left and U-turns for drivers heading north on Route 1 at Washington Road and Harrison Street.
