Someone broke a window at Smith's ACE Hardware in the Princeton Shopping Center and stole $150 cash from inside, Princeton Police reported. The incident was reported by an employee of a neighboring business shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday, May 17. An investigation continues.

On May 13 at 5:56 p.m., a Toyota driven by Christian Giles, 17, of Princeton and a Toyota driven by Elizabeth Socolow, 72, of Lawrenceville were both traveling west on Hamilton Avenue near the intersection of Walnut Lane when the Giles hit the back of Socolow's vehicle. Socolow was taken to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for treatment of neck pain. Giles was issued a summons for careless driving. On May 13 at 4:41 p.m., a caller in the first block of Hillsdale Road reported that sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., someone forced open the home's rear door. On April 24 at 2:56 p.m., a caller reported they returned to their vehicle at Turning Basin Park on Alexander Street and found the driver's side rear window smashed. Nothing appeared to be missing from inside. The cost to replace the window was not immediately known. On April 25 at 6:47 p.m., the owner of a business in the 200 block of Nassau Street reported that sometime since 10 p.m. the night before, someone broke a window and went inside. $100 was found missing from the cash box inside. On April 26 at 4:05 p.m., as a follow up to a shoplifting complaint from a business in the 800 block of State Road, Det. On April 11, a burglary and theft at Palmer Square East. A victim reported that on March 27 between 3:30 and 9 p.m., someone entered his unlocked vehicle and took some personal items. Total value of missing items: less than $50. On April 11 at 2:42 p.m., a theft was reported at Princeton Shopping Center. A victim was leaving a store when he saw someone riding his bike towards Valley Road. The value of the boy's bike was unknown. On April 13 at 12:22 p.m., a theft in the 100 block of Bayard Lane. A caller reported that between March 20 and April 3, several items were removed from the victim's home, including a Visa card and prescription medications. Police say they received nearly 30 calls identifying the suspects after releasing surveillance photos.
Two people- a boyfriend and girlfriend- have been charged in connection with thefts at Princeton Day School and Princeton Police say the public's help was instrumental in helping police identify the alleged culprits. Mark Trimble, 22, of Hess Way in Hamilton and Sheila Frank, 21, of Maple Avenue in Bordentown are charged with entering Princeton Day School after regular hours and stealing two iMac laptops and an iPhone, all owned by students and with a total value of $2,600. The thefts occurred on Feb. 23, Feb. 25 and March 13, police said. On March 22, police released surveillance photos from the scene and asked for the public's help to identify the suspects. On March 20 at 12:19 p.m., police responded to a home in the 200 block of Valley Road for a report of a burglary. Officers discovered the rear door had been forced open and the interior ransacked. Two Princeton men were arrested on March 2 shortly before 10 p.m. after police said one man left a Nassau Street business with alcohol and then handed it to a minor. Eric Lee-Schalow, 21, of Prospect Avenue, was issued a summons for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Princeton Borough Police are investigating the burglary/theft of a Volvo that was allegedly stolen from a driveway in the 200 block of Elm Road and later found crashed in the woods of Bunn Drive. Princeton Township Police found the green-colored car crashed in the woods at 2:49 a.m. on Thansgiving Day, Nov. 22. Both airbags had deployed but no one was in the vehicle. An investigation revealed that it had been stolen earlier that morning. An investigation continues. On Sept. 24 at 12:05 p.m., a resident of the 100 block of Griggs Drive reported that over the past two months she has noticed electronics and jewelry missing from her home and her vehicle. There was no sign of forced entry to either, and the victim estimated the total value of the theft at $750. On Sept. 25 at 12:58 p.m., a staff member at Princeton Day School reported that sometime between Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, an iPad was stolen from the school. An investigation resulted in the arrest of Zhanna Kovtunenko, 53, of Lawrenceville. Kovtunenko was arrested, charged with burglary and theft and released on her own recognizance. On Aug. 24 at 1:33 p.m., a Honda driven by Rajashekh Dodamani, 40, of Plainsboro and a Toyota driven by Frances Duckett, 74, of Roosevelt. were driving south on State Road at the intersection of Ewing Street when the Toyota struck the rear of the Honda. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven from the scene. Duckett was issued a summons for careless driving. On Aug. 24 at 3:41 p.m., a resident of Tupelo Row reported that sometime during the day on July 10, an unknown person or persons entered their apartment and took jewelry valued in excess of $4,000.
