Antoinette Baldino passed away on Nov. 30
Antoinette N. Baldino, 87, of Princeton died Wednesday, Nov. 30, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Trenton, she was a resident of Princeton for the past 44 years. Antoinette was a hairdresser for 55 years and spent most of her employment with Artistic Hairdresser in Princeton. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad, Princeton Engine No. 1, and the Italian American Sportsman Club. Antoinette was an avid reader, loved the arts especially musicals and plays and was known for her parties where she enjoyed making her fine Italian dishes for her family and friends. Catherine McGrath passed away on Dec. 1.
Catherine "Kay" McGrath, 87, of Princeton died peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 1 at Princeton Hospital after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Boston, where her father, an Irish emigre, worked as a cement finisher and as an active labor leader, serving as the business agent for the American Brotherhood of Cement and Asphalt Workers. Kay graduated from Boston University. She was the founder and, for more than 20 years, the executive director of the Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, building the council with a $5,000 bank loan, the use of a borrowed brownstone in Trenton and only herself on the staff to a county-wide organization with more than 50 employees and million dollar budgets. Virginia Wilkinson passed away on Dec. 2.
Virginia Mary (Corio) Wilkinson died on Friday, Dec. 2 at Acorn Glen assist-living in Princeton. She was 90 years old. She was born on March 8, in Jersey City. She grew up in East Orange before moving with her family to Princeton Junction in 1937. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1938. During World War II, she worked at the RCA Laboratories where she met her husband-to-be. She was married to Wm. C. Wilkinson, Jr., on Feb. 9, 1946. They lived briefly in Trenton, then Penns Neck, and in 1955 they moved to the family’s new home in Princeton. Lois Montgomery Dowey, educator, activist and longtime resident of Princeton died Nov. 11 after a two year battle with cancer. She was born in Parma, Idaho on Sept. 25, 1925, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and a Welsh immigrant teacher. She lived in Portland Ore.. Lois graduated from Madera High School in Madera, Calif. and from Occidental College before moving to New York City where she obtained a masters in philosophy from Columbia University. Lois married Edward Dowey in N.Y. in 1954. They lived in Chicago for two years before moving to Princeton in 1957 when Edward started a long career at Princeton Theological Seminary. Martha D. Beck, 63, of Princeton died Tuesday, Nov. 15 at University Medical Center At Princeton surrounded by her loving family. Born in Akron, Ohio she resided in Amityville, Long Island before moving to Princeton in 1978. Martha was a member of the Westerly Road Church, the Mercedes Benz Club of America and an avid crocheter, knitter, artist and painter. Margaret K. Smagorinsky, 95, passed away Nov. 14 in Hillsborough, of natural causes. Born on Dec. 23, 1915 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Margaret was the second of four daughters of Anne and George Knoepfel. She attended Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn and was graduated from Brooklyn College while still a teenager, the first member of her family to attend college. Following college, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Ashland, N.Y. for four years, and then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Railroad Retirement Board as a statistician and then as the first woman statistician hired by the Weather Bureau. After being sent to New York University for additional coursework, she met Joseph Smagorinsky in a graduate course. They …

Richard J. “Dick” Kiefer, 71, of Hamilton Township, died Friday, November 11, 2011 after “writing a new page in the treatment of lung cancer,” according to one of his doctors. Born and raised in Princeton, he moved to Hamilton in 1964. After graduation from Princeton High School, Dick started an upholstery and drapery business. He soon continued the family carpentry tradition, working with Princeton Local 781 for 30 years before his retirement in 1999. Richard had various interests including bowling, golfing, camping and square dancing. He was an active and much loved member of the Edinburg Road Chapel in Mercerville. Dick helped build many churches in the Dominican Republic through Meeting God in Missions, as well as making and donating …

Betty was born Jan. 3, 1922 in Princeton to Albert and Jennie Vandenberg Snyder. One brother and sister preceded her in death. Surviving are two nieces, Cynthia DeCavalcante of New Jersey and Debbie Tozer of Virginia, two nephews, Bradley Snyder of Florida and Michael Riddle of Illinois. She worked at the First National Bank of Princeton for 25 years before moving to Peoria, Ill. in 1968. She was an assistant vice president at the First National Bank of Peoria where she retired in 1987. She was an avid golfer and Chicago Cubs Fan. Betty moved back to her home state of New Jersey in 2007 where she was surrounded by her loving family. There will be no visitation. The youngest of three children of James Bernard Groome and Agnes Maguire of Philadelphia, Penn., he was born April 20, 1934. He was a graduate of Girard College and LaSalle College and did graduate work at the University of Michigan. Groome began his career as a staff writer for the magazine of the Pennsylvania Railroad and held marketing positions at Sun Oil Company and Burroughs Corporation before joining the founding management team of GeoDatic Corporation. In 1971, he joined the American Hotel & Motel Association, where he served as director of marketing, until 1987, when he founded a consulting company that bore his name. James is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children Kimberly, James and Kevin, and nine grandchildren. A …
