Princeton Area Community Foundation Awards Over $500K in Grants
Mercer County non-profits will soon be receiving $506,990 worth of grants from the Princeton Area Community Foundation, according to a report in the Times of Trenton.
More than 120 area nonprofits applied for the grants, which were reviewed by the Community Foundation. According to its website, the Community Foundation has invested $8.5 million to date in regional non-profits.
The Center for Supportive Schools (formerly known as the Princeton Center for Leadership Training), which prepares children from low-income households for leadership in college, received the largest grant at $50,000. The Citizens Campaign, which works to educate citizens about good government, also received a generous grant of $50,000, and the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey received $30,000.

The Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mercer County, Minding Our Business, Shiloh Community Development Corp., Westminster Community Life Center, Better Beginnings Day Care Center of Hightstown/East Windsor, the Institute of Wonderful Working Women for Empowerment, and Latin American Legal Defense and Educational Fund each received $25,000 respectively, according to the report.
The Greater Donnelly Neighborhood Initiative received $24,990, and Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton, the YMCA of Princeton, the Millhill Child Family Development Corp., Princeton Nursery School, and Trenton Children’s Chorus each received $20,000 as well.

The Mercer Street Friends Center and the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey received $15,000. Lastly, the Young Audiences of New Jersey received $12,00 and Preservation New Jersey was awarded $10,000.
The Community Foundation funds these grants in collaboration with NRG Energy and the Harbourton Foundation, along with a number of other charitable funds managed by private individuals.
