Attn. Princeton Nonprofits: New Grant Opportunities Available This Fall

Each grant will range up to $10,000 and support education, leadership, economic opportunity/development and self-sufficiency.

The Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation have announced a fund that will begin to award grants to local nonprofits by the end of 2013.

Each grant will range up to $10,000 and support education, leadership, economic opportunity/development and self-sufficiency. Priority will be given to programs where organizations come together to solve community issues collaboratively.

“More than 10% of our members are not-for-profit organizations and we want to support them in a genuine way,” said PRCC President and CEO Peter Crowley.  We believe that support for a vibrant nonprofit community is one of the keys to a healthy overall regional economy.”

The Community Development Fund, administered by the Community Foundation, was established with a $500,000 gift from the Chamber Foundation. The money came from the proceeds of the former Chamber headquarters at 9 Vandeventer Avenue, which was sold in 2012.

Grants will be awarded through a competitive application process and distributed by the Princeton Area Community Foundation in conjunction with The Community Development Fund Committee. The Committee will be chaired by Kristin Appelget, director of community and regional affairs at Princeton University and former president of the Chamber and the Foundation.

"With this investment in our local nonprofit sector, the Princeton Regional Chamber Foundation and Board are making an important statement—and a real difference," said Nancy Kieling, president of the Princeton Area Community Foundation. "Nonprofits account for 10% of America's workforce, and play a vital role in supporting our community's social, cultural, and economic wellbeing. The Community Foundation exists to promote generosity and connection in our region, and it's a wonderful day for us when we can help businesses and nonprofits collaborate for the greater good."

Applications will be available at www.princetonchamber.org by the end of September, 2013.
