Rutgers Tight End Wins John Mackey Weekly Award

Rutgers University sophomore Tyler Kroft was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week this week, the university announced.

Kroft caught six passes for 133 yards and a touchdown in the 28-24 win over Arkansas on Saturday.  The receptions and receiving yards were his career highs, according to the University.

For the season, he has 186 yards receiving and is averaging 16.9 yards a catch, according to scarletknights.com.

Rutgers is 3-1 this season following Saturday’s victory. The Scarlet Knights have the week off before facing Southern Methodist on Oct. 5 in the conference opener, live on ESPNNews.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is awarded by the John Mackey Award group, but has no bearing on the final decision for the group’s Tight End of the Year. The weekly award has been in place since 2004 to recognize tight end play throughout the country on a weekly basis, according to the John Mackey Award group.
