Princeton University Football Team Can Clinch Share of Ivy Title on Saturday

Princeton rallied to defeat Penn, 38-26, on Saturday to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Princeton University football team is one win away from claiming at least a share of the Ivy League championship.

The Tigers rallied from a 16-point deficit early in the game for a 38-26 win over Penn on Saturday, according to goprincetontigers.com.

Penn scored the first 16 points, and held a 23-17 halftime lead, but the Tigers outscored the Quakers, 21-3 in the second half.

Junior quarterback Quinn Epperly threw two touchdown passes, one a 10-yard strike to junior wide receiver Seth DeValve and the other a 14-yarder to junior wide receiver Connor Kelley.

Epperly also rushed for two scores, including a 2-yard run that capped a 15-play, 62-yard drive that put the Tigers ahead, 24-23, midway through the third quarter. It was Princeton’s first lead of the game, and the Tigers never looked back.

Epperly also scored on a 1-yard run that extended Princeton’s lead to 31-23.

He also connected with senior wide receiver Roman Wilson for a 2-point conversion.

Senior defensive back Elijah Mitchell had a 59-yard interception return for a score, and sophomore kicker Nolan Bieck connected on a 27-yard field goal.

The Tigers improved to 7-1 overall, 5-0 in the conference. Penn fell to 4-4 overall, 3-2 in Ivy League competition.

Princeton hosts Yale (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN3.

A win by the Tigers would give them a share of the conference title for the first time since 2006.

Wins over Yale this weekend and Dartmouth in two weeks would give the Tigers their first outright conference title since 1995.
