Princeton QB Sets Record, Leads Tigers to First Place in Ivy League

Quinn Epperly completed 29 consecutive passes, a record for all of Division I.

One of the nation’s oldest college football teams found a way to make history over the weekend.

Princeton University quarterback Quinn Epperly, a junior from Knoxville, Tennesee, completed 29 consecutive passes in the Tigers’ 53-20 win over Cornell on Saturday.

The 29-straight passes are an NCAA-all Division I record. The Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record is 26 by East Carolina quarterback Dominique Davis in the Pirates’ win over Navy on Oct. 22, 2011.

Epperly finished the game by going 32-of-35 passing for 325 yards three passing touchdowns and three 1-yard rushing touchdowns. For the season, he’s 125-of-167 for 1,400 yards, 18 touchdowns and just one interception, according to goprincetontigers.com.

Epperly connected with wide receiver Roman Wilson (sr., Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) on a 7-yard strike in the first quarter for the first score of the game. He and Wilson hooked up again on a 17-yard score in the third quarter. He also hit wide recevier Seth DeValve (jr., Manchester, Connecticut) for a 12-yard touchdown pass.

Kicker Nolan Beck (soph., Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) rounded out the scoring with a 20-yard field goal.

The Tigers jumped out to a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and commanded the game. Princeton shut out Cornell, 14-0, in the third quarter.

The win helped the Tigers improve to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in Ivy League play. Princeton has sole possession of first place, one game ahead of both Harvard (6-1, 3-1) and Pennsylvania (4-3, 3-1).

Princeton owns a triple overtime win over Harvard, having won 51-48 in Cambridge on Oct. 26.

The Tigers host Penn this weekend, the first of three games left on the schedule.

Princeton last shared an Ivy League championship in 2006, when the Tigers split the crown with Yale. The Tigers last won an outright conference title in 1995 when they were 8-1-1 overall, 5-1-1 in conference play.
