If you have to play in the cold and rain, you might as well win.
The Princeton High boys soccer team did just that on Thursday, Sept. 15, winning 1-0 at Allentown.
"We found a way to win, and that's the most important thing," Coach Wayne Sutcliffe said. "It was cold and wet, but it helps when you win."
Kevin Halliday scored the lone goal of the match early in the second half.
"I just saw the ball up in the air," Halliday said. "I thought the goalie had it, but it slipped through his hands. Anything can happen when it's wet and slippery. That's why the ball slipped out of the goalie's hands. When it's this cold and wet, you might get a second chance. That was one I made the most out of."
A solid game by George Kusserow in goal, backed by a great defense, took care of the rest of Princeton's win.
Princeton tied Hopewell, 1-1, on Monday, Sept. 12.
Colin Lamb scored the lone goal of the match for Princeton. Kusserow recorded three saves in goal.
Princeton is now 1-0-1 on the season. This comes after Princeton was 16-2-1 last season on the way to winning the CVC Valley Division.
"We have every reason to believe we can win a lot of games and some titles this year," Sutcliffe said. "When you return 17 letterwinners, that's a reason right there to believe."
In addition to Kusserow, the other seniors on the team are Kellen Kenny (defense), Ben Davis (defense), Ajami Gikandi (midfielder), Bruce Robertson (defense), Kyle Ehrenworth (midfield) and Will Schwarz (defense).
The juniors are Karsten Marshall-Otto (goalie), Caio Maia (midfield), Peter Schulman (forward), David Santamaria (midfield), Scott Beehler (defense), Jordan Phelps (forward), Colin Lamb (midfield/forward), Jeremy Goldsmith (midfield), Zach Halliday (midfield), Juan Carlos Polanco (midfield/defense) and Pablo Arroyo (defense).
The sophomores are Kevin Halliday (midfield), John Blair (midfield) and Nate Shue (midfield).
Carlos Salazar and Salvi Baldino are Princeton's assistants.
"We're hoping for another good season," Sutcliffe said. "We have every reason to believe we'll have one."
