David Brooks to Speak at Princeton

Brooks will revisit his 2001, hypothesis that Princeton students "rarely question authority and happily accept their positions at the top of the heap as part of the natural order of life."

New York Times op-ed columnist David Brooks will deliver the Stafford Little Lecture “Politics and the Organization Kid” at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in McCosh Hall, Room 50 at Princeton University.

This event is free and open to the public.

In a  2001 Atlantic article “The Organization Kid,” Brooks had this to say about Princeton students: “The young men and women of America's future elite work their laptops to the bone, rarely question authority and happily accept their positions at the top of the heap as part of the natural order of life.” Now Brooks will take another look at the Organization Kids and see how they have changed (and been changed by) the political system. What does this mean for our political future?

Brooks has been a senior editor at the Weekly Standard and a contributing editor at Newsweek and the Atlantic. He is currently a commentator on “PBS NewsHour.” He is the author of “Bobos In Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There” and “On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (and Always Have) in the Future Tense,” both published by Simon & Schuster. His most recent book is “The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character and Achievement,” published by Random House in 2011.
