Blog: Community Dinner to Benefit TASK

Local resident organizes benefit to support TASK.

Tehmina Jovindah has organized her first annual benefit for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. On Saturday, January 26, 2013, 6 – 10 PM, Mrs. Jovindah is planning for the Central NJ and Bucks County communities to come together at the Ramada of Levittown, PA to support TASK.

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen is a 501 (c) (3) private, non-profit organization, and has been feeding the hungry for almost 30 years. TASK offers programs to promote independence and enhance its recipients’ quality of life. They sustain an open door, with a no-questions-asked policy. They have even expanded their reach by collaborating with the Princeton United Methodist Church, to serve warm meals every Wednesday evening at the Cornerstone Community Kitchen, right here in town.

Wegmans has generously offered to donate the food for this feast, so you know it’ll be delicious. This communal-style meal to raise funds benefiting those who are hungry in our area is a great way to support a non-profit after Hurricane Sandy.

There will be live inspirational folk music by Dr. David Brahinsky & Friends, with Brahinsky on guitar and vocals, Phil Mcauliffe on bass, Guy DeRosa on harmonica, Nalani and Sarina Bolton on vocals, and Ed Cedar on guitar and mandolin. There will also be the opportunity to enter to win raffle prizes.

Tehmina told me her vision is to strengthen communities and build bridges of understanding, while supporting our local soup kitchen. “This is a social, community event open to all.”

Tickets can be purchased for $50/person for adults, and $20/person for children (including babysitting) until Wednesday, January 23rd. This includes the meal and entertainment. 100% of the ticket proceeds will benefit the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
