Consolidation Meeting Tonight

Residents are invited to a community meeting tonight between municipal officials and members of the consolidation commission.

Princeton residents are invited to a community forum tonight to learn more about potential consolidation between the borough and township.

Princeton Borough Council, Princeton Township Committee and the Princeton Consolidation and Shared Services Study Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in the Princeton Township Municipal Complex at 400 Witherspoon Street.

In May, the commission voted 9-1 to recommend consolidating into a borough form of government with an elected mayor and six at-large council members to hold staggered terms.

The commission estimates consolidation could save taxpayers  $3.1 million in staff costs and redundancies.

Now borough council and township committee will decide whether to put the consolidation question on the ballot and if they do, voters would have their say on Nov. 8.
