The United States Postal Service needs to sell the 11,000 square foot
antique building at 20 Palmer Square East because it’s too big and too
expensive to maintain, according to the report.
The post office building, located at the center of town, is often used for town gatherings and events, and is home to the town's Christmas tree.
The public has 30 days from Aug. 9 to express its thoughts on the sale, per U.S. Postal Service rules governing the sale of one of its buildings Holt’s representative Thomas Seay told nj.com.
This is the Postal Service’s third attempt since 1997 to sell the building, according to the report.
However, the Historic Preservation Office prevented that sale because it didn’t believe the Post Office wished to protect the historic nature of the building, according to the report.
