Truck Fire Closes Route 206 on Wednesday Afternoon

Drivers reported heavy traffic coming in and out of Princeton.

A truck hauling scrap metal caught fire on Route 206 in Princeton Wednesday afternoon, forcing police to close the road for more than two hours.

Shortly after 1 p.m, Princeton Police began receiving 911 calls reporting a tractor trailer on fire on Stockton just south of Lovers Lane.

When officers arrived on the scene they reported that an open body tractor trailer that was hauling scrap metal caught fire while in transport and the driver had to abandon the vehicle. The truck was operated by Predator Trucking Company in Somerville.

Route 206 was closed between Lovers Lane and Hutchinson Drive and drivers diverted to Mercer Street while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

Responding to the scene was Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, Trenton Hazmat and PSE&G.
