Police Investigate Near-Drowning in Plainsboro

A 6-year-old girl was pulled from a swimming pool while attending a birthday party.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief Guy Armour of the Plainsboro Police Department announced today that police are investigating the near-drowning of a 6-year-old girl, who was hospitalized after she was retrieved from a hotel swimming pool in the borough.

The child, a Trenton resident whose name is being withheld, is being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was taken after she was found in the pool at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Princeton on Jan. 26.

Police responded to the hotel after receiving a call shortly after 8:30 p.m., alerting them to the near drowning. The child was taken to the University Medical Center at Princeton in Plainsboro before being transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. She is listed in guarded condition.

An investigation by Detective Eric Potts of the Plainsboro Police Department and Investigator Frank DiNinno of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined the girl was at a birthday party attended by several adults who were supervising a group of children while they were swimming.

The child was retrieved from the pool when it was determined that she was in distress and police were notified.

The investigation is continuing, but no charges have been filed. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Potts of the Plainsboro Police Department at 609-799-2333, or Investigator DiNinno of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4194.
