Police Blotter: Skateboarder Struck by Car, Hit and Run Accident and More

Princeton Township reported the following incidents between June 21-24.

 

At 9:35 a.m. on June 21, University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro security reported that between 4:30 p.m. on June 20 and 6:55 a.m. on June 21 someone stole over $750 cash from a medical office on Witherspoon Street. There was no sign of forced entry.

Charles Thompson Jr., 48, of Edison, was charged with careless driving at 12:28 p.m. on June 21. Police said Thompson was exiting a driveway on Herrontown Road and struck a Toyota driven by Larry Wollack, 49, of Mays Landing. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Thompson was issued a summons.

At 11:44 a.m. on June 22, police said a person reported a camera lens worth $2,500 was stolen during an event at Stuart Country Day School.

A David Brearly Court resident reported at 9:04 a.m. on June 23 that someone broke the rear windshield of their vehicle between 3 p.m. on June 22 and 9 a.m. on June 23. A repair cost was not available.

Norman James IV, 21, of Belle Mead, was charged with careless driving at 5:15 p.m. on June 21. Police said James caused a chain-reaction collision when his Ford struck the rear of a Toyota driven by Rajkumar Rathinasamy, 31, of Kansas City, MO on State Road, forcing it into the rear of a Chevrolet driven by Jill Salvo, 53, of Schenectady, N.Y.. The Toyota was towed from the scene, and James was issued a summons.

Alexis Chavez-Perez, 21, of Brick, was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to keep right and being an unlicensed driver, at 3:56 a.m. on June 24.  Police said a resident of the 500 block of Princeton-Kingston Road reported a loud crash in the area. Patrols found a vehicle had struck a fence and the airbags deployed, but there were no occupants. Police contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who was not the driver, and learned the driver, Chavez-Perez, had fled the scene and was in New Brunswick. Chavez-Perez reported to police headquarters where he was charged.

Police received a call at 7:06 p.m. on June 24 that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Franklin and Grover avenues. Police said Douglas Zieniuk, 21, of Erdman Avenue, Princeton, was skateboarding on Grover Avenue and ran through the stop sign at Franklin Avenue, hitting a Honda driven by Lisa Goldsmith, 50, of Roper Road. According to police, Zieniuk suffered a collapsed lung, six broken ribs, a broken tibia, broken collarbone and a shoulder injury. He was transported to Capital Health Systems Fuld Campus in Trenton. The crash remains under investigation.
