UPDATED: Gas Link Struck, 500 Evacuated, No Injuries Reported

The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday.

All buildings were cleared for occupation at 12:40 p.m.

The gas has been turned off and a team from Princeton Fire Department, the University's Department of Public Safety and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety are checking the evacuated buildings for gas level before they are cleared for occupation.

A backhoe struck a gas line south of McCosh Health Center on the Princeton University campus, forcing the evacuation of about 500 people from 11 buildings in the immediate area, according to University Spokesman Martin Mbugua. 

The following buildings were affected: McCosh Health Center, Guyot, Moffet, Schultz, Jones, 1938, 1927, Dodge-Osborn, 1937, Eno and Feinberg. 

No injuries were reported. 

The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m.

PSEG, Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid ands Rescue Squad, the University's Department of Public Safety, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Site Protection are at the scene.
