He was found with a handcuff key, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

An East Windsor man was captured early Wednesday morning after escaping by kicking out the window of the backseat of a Montgomery Township police car Tuesday night, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Montgomery Township police discovered Kevin Slovensky, 31, hiding in a commercial building in Rocky Hill about six hours after the escape, and was found with a handcuff key, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said in a news release.

Slovensky was being transported to Somerset County Jail by Montgomery Township police when he kicked out a window in the patrol car and took off near Crescent Avenue and County Route 518 in Rocky Hill around 7 p.m., authorities said.

The incident happened after Montgomery Police went to pick up Slovensky from East Windsor Police, where he was being held on a traffic warrant issued in Montgomery Township, authorities said.

Police searched the area and brought in a New Jersey State Police helicopter and South Bound Brook Police K-9 unit to help find Slovensky.

He was charged with escape and criminal mischief, and taken to the Somerset County Jail.

According to a report in The Trenton Times, Slovensky was arrested for DWI in 2002 while driving a federally owned SUV, which he allegedly borrowed from his brother, who is a Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives agent.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office could not be reached Wednesday night for further comment.
