Body Found During Search for Missing Lambertville Woman

A body matching the description of Sarah Majores was found in the D&R Canal in Lambertville Wednesday night, four days after the 39-year-old woman went missing.

“At 4:50 this afternoon, a female body was recovered in the D & R Canal near the lock south of Bridge Street in Lambertville," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III  said in a press release Wednesday evening.

"While the clothing description is consistent with what Sarah Majoras was wearing, a positive identification, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be handled by the Hunterdon County Medical Examiner. The investigation still remains active until investigators determine what happened to Ms. Majoras."

Divers from the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit made the discovery after a boot matching the desciption of Majoras' was discovered in the canal by another diver.

Rescue crews, law enforcement and volunteers spent days searching for Majores, who went misisng early Saturday morning (Jan. 26) while walking home. 

Majoras was out at John and Peter's in New Hope on Friday night. It was after 2 a.m. on Saturday when she walk over the bridge and into Lambertville.

Security cameras on the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge recorded her crossing the Delaware River and turning north on Lambert Lane, according to Kearns. 

“While we have no substantial evidence of foul play, our minds remain open, we are looking at all possibilities, and we continue to pursue any information we can in an attempt to make sense of what might have happened," Kearns said.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the Majoras family and her many friends in Lambertville and New Hope," Kearns said.

There is no way to word this that makes this statement less painful. A female body was found tonight by rescue crews in the Canal in Lambertville that does match the description of Sarah. It's excruciatingly hard to say that the search for Sarah might be over but we can not abandon the family that we have created over the past 4 days and for most - over the past 16 years. This community is testament alone to the overwhelming Love that we had for Sarah, the same Love that she showed all of us day in and day out. We ask that you reflect and grieve and reach out for support if you need it. Please reserve any rhetoric outside of those lines and instead convert that energy into a positive force and send it to her family and closest friends. As involved as we feel - it is unimaginable how they feel. Thank you everyone for everything - we did this together - Stay Strong for Sarah. Rest in Piece kind soul.
