Storm Downs Trees, Branches, Power Lines in Princeton

Crews were busy working on cleanup on Sunday.

Strong wind, thunderstorms and heavy rain on Saturday night left trees and limbs down throughout Princeton and power outages continued into Sunday night.

In the Borough, Department of Public Works crews were working to clean up the tree debris throughout town Sunday- including on Alexander Street, Harrison Street, Hamilton Avenue and Linden Lane-  and helping police set up road barriers in heavily hit areas, Police Lt. Robert Currier said.

“The Borough got affected rather significantly,” Currier said. “We had numerous trees and wires down, some were across people’s driveways. We’re just getting everything pretty much cleaned up now.”

Downed power lines left some customers without power, especially in the eastern part of town, Currier said. By 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, PSEG reported between one and 500 customers without power in Princeton Borough and between one and 500 households still in the dark in Princeton Township.

PSE&G crews were on site at the intersection of Alexander Street and Dickinson Street around 5 p.m., where a downed utility pole needed to be replaced. Crews were awaiting water company representatives on Sunday evening to ensure no interference with nearby water mains, Currier said.

In the Township as of Sunday at 8 p.m., Magnolia Lane, Leabrook Lane and the intersection of Grover Avenue and Clearview Avenue were closed, Township Police Sgt. Michael Cifelli said.

Two downed trees hit homes in the Township- one on Magnolia and one on Woodside- but no one was injured and the homes were not structurally damaged, Cifelli said.
