Week in Review: Nassau Street Cutouts Go Missing and More

Fireworks, a teen Taekwondo world champion and a successful local fundraiser are just some of the highlights.

 

Ananth Balasubramanian, 15, of Princeton, has been named the TaeKwondo World Champion in the Second and Third Degree Black Belt division. The soon-to-be Princeton High School sophomore earned his title at the American Taekwondo Association’s World Championship Tournament  June 21-24 in Little Rock, Ark.

Every year I look forward to Independence Day fireworks. For those of you who missed the festivities in Princeton last night, I captured some bursts to share with you.

A weekend fundraiser at the  in Princeton raised more than $4,000 for the Barnosky family of Lawrenceville. The money will go towards the care of four-year-old Liam Barnosky, who was born with a rare liver disease and recently underwent a liver transplant. 

 


Two men were arrested on Saturday, June 30 after police allegedly observed them trying to steal the wooden cutout of Albert Einstein that sits along Nassau Street near the Princeton University U-Store, according to Princeton Borough Police. The Michelle Obama cutout went missing around the same time and has yet to be found, said Mimi Omiecinski, owner of Princeton Tour Company. 

 

Sara and Warren Wilson of Princeton, founders of Snack Factory and Pretzel Crisps, have been named the Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur Of The Year in New Jersey 2012 for their more than 30 years as innovators in the snack food and consumer product industry.
