Dancing into Dreams: Vase Painting of the Ik' Kingdom
Dancing into Dreams offers an intimate glimpse into eighth-century Maya court culture through chocolate-drinking vessels. Witness young princes playing ball, elegantly attired kings partaking in sumptuous feasts and the demons understood to cause sickness and misfortune. The Museum’s collection will be enhanced by major loans to create a rich timeline of a single kingdom’s royal history and of the artists – many of whom we now know by name – who recorded these events naturalistically on the vases. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
Museum hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm,Thursday, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 pm
