When Saturday morning arrives, I grab my shopping bags and head out to the farmers' market as soon as I can.  I walk around savoring the luscious offerings and interesting locally made products engrossed in my thoughts.  However it never occurs to me to ask why these vendors are there.  Why should I, after all?  Are they not here to delight my senses?

The answer, obviously, is no.  They are our local entrepreneurs, and it is worthwhile to stop to consider how much they add to our community.  Not only are they are our friends, family, and neighbors, but these hard-working businesspeople support local sports teams and fairs, provide a mental heath service by hiring our kids, thereby getting them out of the house, and much of the revenue they earn stays in the local economy.

So here's to our market vendors and their entrepreneurial spirit!  Let's celebrate these small business men and women who add so much to our community.  Montgomery Friends joins with the American Independent Business Alliance recognizing how they sustain a thriving local economy.
