When's My Trash Pickup?

Here's what you need to know about Princeton's new curbside trash pickup, which is now in effect.

Princeton's new municipal curbside trash collection is now in effect.

Central Jersey Waste & Recycling will collect and dispose of Princeton’s residential refuse and bulky items for 2013–2015.

Residents who have already canceled their private trash hauler are eligible to participate. Apartments and townhouse residents who take their trash to a dumpster are not eligible.

If you would like to receive “back door” refuse collection, you have three options:

  • continue with your current private hauler
  • find a private hauler, exclusive of the municipal contract
  • contract directly with Central Jersey Waste for an additional fee.

Trash must be placed curbside after 6 p.m. the night before collection or before 6 a.m. the day of collection.

Residents must provide their own lidded containers. You are allowed a maximum of four 32 gallon capacity containers which weigh no more than 50 pounds when full. Bags will not be collected. Empty containers must be removed from the curb by midnight after collection.

There is a limit of two large bulky items per week in addition to normal trash, ex: mattress, box spring, couch, desk, chair. Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic.

What will NOT be collected in the weekly pickup:

  • Recyclables
  • Building materials
  • Computer monitors
  • Leaves, brush / yard debris
  • Broken concrete
  • Televisions
  • Construction debris
  • Ashes
  • Automotive parts
  • White goods (washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.)
  • Tires
  • Fences

If your trash is not picked p by 7 p.m. on the day it's due to be collected, please contact the Public Works Department at 609-688-2566 or jpellichero@princetonnj.gov and provide the following information:

  • Date
  • Time left at curb
  • Email address
  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone no.
  • # of containers

Please leave your missed containers at the curb for collection, unless notified otherwise by the Public Works staff.

There will be no collection on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Make-up days for these holidays will occur on Wednesday of the same week.

If you have any questions please contact the Princeton Public Works Department 609-688-2566.
