Princeton Weekend Guide: Feb. 22-24

Looking for things to do in and around Princeton this weekend? Here's our roundup of fun and interesting local events.

 

Friday

A documentary film, "Slavery by Another Name." Based on the book by Douglas Blackmon, the movie challenges the belief that slavery in America ended with the Emancipation Proclamation and sheds light on the practice of forced labor that existed into the 20th century. Community Room, 7 p.m.

 which chronicles the rise of young Louise as she is thrust into stardom by her aggressive mother, Mama Rose. McAneny Theater, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday

There will be two sessions: “The Route One Growth Strategy” with Jon Carnegie from Rutgers University and “How Do Other Regions Plan?” with Tom Wright Jr. and Rob Freudenberg, Regional Plan Association. The response panel will feature Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu, West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh and Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert, One Monument Drive, 9 a.m. to Noon.  

Drop by the Princeton University Art Museum between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 

Princeton Men's Tennis hosts USTA Campus Kids Day. Princeton v. FDU begins at 2 p.m. (free admission with free pizza and drinks for kids). After, the team will host an autograph session, racquet stenciling, and a free clinic following the game for children in eighth grade or under.

Improv Night at Princeton Public Library, featuring PHS's Just Wing it and Princeton University's Quipfire! There will also be games and activities, Community Room, 7 p.m. 

Arts Council of Princeton hosts Cafe Improvfeaturing music, poetry and comedy, 7 p.m. 

 

Sunday

Jersey Transit A Capella concert at Princeton Public Library. The group uses complex vocal harmonies augmented by claps, grunts and Aboriginal clicking noises. Community Room, 3 p.m. 

The Central New Jersey Slow Food “Eat Slow” Winter Farmers Market season culminates with the third in a series of markets at Tre Piani Restaurant. Enjoy an array of locally grown and produced foods including cheeses, breads, baked goods, fresh produce, jams, wine, mushrooms and much more, 11 a.m.
