Blog: Zoning Bill Raises Concerns

The passage of S-1534 last week to exempt private colleges and universities from local zoning requirements was a major disappointment to everyone I have spoken with in the Princeton Community.

The passage of S-1534 last week to exempt private colleges and universities from local zoning requirements was a major disappointment to everyone I have spoken with in the Princeton Community.

The essence of our democratic republic is that all citizens and institutions should be treated equally. The ideas of fairness and equal opportunity are crucial to our values as Princetonians, and Americans. Why should private colleges and universities get a free pass while other institutions have to comply with local rules and regulations?

I urge everyone in the newly consolidated Princeton to contact their elected Assembly representatives in the 16th Legislative District and tell them in the strongest terms possible to vote against the bill before it sneaks through the Assembly.

Don't you live and pay taxes in Montgomery Twp of Somerset county Mr. Keddie? Why such an interestRead More in "Our" town? What's your angle? How do you benefit by being such a proponent for AvalonBay?

@BFS Oh for heaven's sake, David Keddie is allowed to have an opinion and it doesn't matter where heRead More lives. This makes me sick, that some people are resorting to personal attacks. Criticize what Keddie is saying, if you've got anything sensible to say. Otherwise, lay off the personal attacks.

@BFS I live and pay taxes in Princeton not Montgomery. I'm a chaplain who works with grad studentsRead More and young adults and see daily the negative consequences of a lack of affordable, walkable housing. That's my interest in seeing more housing in our town.
