BLOG: "Adulticizing" Mosquitoes? on 50th Anniversary of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring
"Adulticizing" mosquitoes planned by Somerset County, despite Rachel Carson's life lessons and books, on 50th anniversary of publication of "Silent Spring" -- human, wildlife effects
I just received the most amazing e-mail from Somerset County, to inform me that they will be "adulticizing" mosquitoes on August 30 in certain communities. This, of course, implies that they plan to adulticize where I am, also, in their county.
DOES NO ONE REMEMBER RACHEL CARSON?
SILENT SPRING? her couragedous "classic that launched the environmental movement" in 1962 -- It is Silent Spring's 50th birthday, and we face spraying!

Rachel predicted "a sterile world, ungraced by the curving of a bird's wing."
Rachel died of cancer, when the book had just come out, when she had just begun courageously to contend with politicians and pesticide companies to protect the health of the earth.

Some of the ammunition that stellar scientist, Rachel Carson, used in her battles with politicians and polluters:
[The use of pesticides is resulting in] "...the pollution of the entire environment of mankind,"
"Birds are the true insecticides, but there is no money in them."
"We must resign ourselves to turning our waterways into rivers of death."
DOES NO ONE REMEMBER:
THE EFFECTS OF PESTICIDES ON HUMANS AND PETS, which are long-term and frquently more lethal for them than for mosquitoes, who SWIFTLY EVOLVE TO BECOME RESISTANT, as do bacteria
THE PESTICIDE WILL FALL IN THE CANAL, OUR DRINKING WATER
Whatever is being used for this "adulticizing" (what, they're protecting infant mosquitoes?) WILL FALL IN OUR STREAMS, BROOKS AND RIVERS, HARMING FISH, DESTROYING OTHER, BENEFICIAL INSECTS, POISONING INSECTS NEEDED BY BIRDS FOR AUTUMNAL MIGRATIONS
BUTTERFLIES ARE MIGRATING - Consider pesticides' effects
Consider WHAT THEY WILL THEY DO TO US
I apologize for using capitals -- lower case does not convey my shock and rage and our helplessness before 'adulticizing'. The adults removed may be ourselves.
