NRG Energy Provides Support for Boys & Girls Club STEM Education Program

NRG Energy recently donated $20,000 to help implement a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education and Career Exploration program at the Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County.

“NRG has focused much of our charitable giving this year on STEM education, and we are glad to see a STEM program like this close to home that we can support,” said Jennifer Brunelle, head of NRG Global Giving. “Providing STEM programs to underserved youth in our area will help inspire young people to become the science and technology leaders of tomorrow.”

The donation will help provide STEM programs and educational activities to 1,000 youths who participate in the Club’s after-school, summer camp, and teen programs during the 2013-14 year.

The grant will help to give Club members specialized education and skills in order to increase their educational achievements in mathematics and science, and allow them to explore STEM-related career opportunities.

“We are delighted to receive the NRG grant which will support our STEM programs and help increase the number of Club members graduating from high school and entering the workforce,” said David E. Anderson, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club. “Because of supporters like NRG, we can continue to provide area youths with the tools and education needed to develop an interest in STEM-related careers.”
