Rude Awakening: Napping Woman Wakes to Truck in Living Room

The Princeton woman was unharmed during the incident.

The call came into at 3:47 p.m.–truck had just driven into a house in the 300 block of Dodds Lane.

"We got a 911 call from a woman who said that a truck had just burst into her living room," Princeton Police Sgt. Fred Williams said.  "She had been sleeping on the love seat and was asleep when this happened."

The driver initially tried to flee from the scene, Williams said.

Now the 17-year-old driver, a Princeton resident, has been charged
with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and being an unlicensed driver.

The teen told police he was part of a landscaping crew at a house across the street. When his partner asked him to move a truck parked on the street, he agreed, even though he didn't have a driver's license.

Somehow he lost control of the vehicle, hit the gas, careened across the street and through the plate glass window of the victim's home. He was unhurt.

When police arrived, they found the female resident of the home in shock, but with no visible injuries. A portion of the truck had come to rest on the love seat, just inches from where she was sleeping. She was transported to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for evaluation.

The house has been deemed structurally sound, although there is a massive cleanup effort underway, with glass and porch debris and broken furniture, Williams said.
