Water Main Upgrades Coming to Princeton

New Jersey American Water is installing 2,450 feet of water pipes, with the $775,000 project to be completed by Halloween.

New Jersey American Water is bringing a new method for delivering water to Princeton.

Old six- and four-inch, unlined, cast iron water mains that have delivered water to Princeton’s homes and businesses since the early 1900s are making way for new, eight-inch, cement-lined ductile iron mains.

New Jersey American Water is installing 2,450 feet of water pipes along Dickenson Street, between Alexander Street and University Place; and on Random Road, between Roper Road and Poe Road.

Work on the $775,000 in infrastructure upgrades is in progress and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31.

The water company says the installation of new pipes will result in increased water flows, continued fire protection, and more reliable water service for Princeton residents.

The water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
