ST. PAUL SCHOOL OF PRINCETON 8th GRADERS LEARN TO KNIT FOR "WARM-UP AMERICA!"
Mrs. Ann Schwimmer's eighth grade religion class at St. Paul School of Princeton learned the art of the knit stitch and knitting squares for their Lenten Service Project under the guidance of parent, Mrs. Deidre Schlosser.
Each student knitted a 7" by 9" square. Their collective effort of 60 squares has been sent to the nonprofit organization "Warm-Up America!" (www.warmupamerica.org). The organization collects thousands of knitted or crocheted squares from donors throughout the country and then stitches them together to form blankets and afghans that are donated to tens of thousands of individuals through social service agencies such as homeless shelters, hospices, senior centers, veterans' homes, Red Cross chapters and hospitals.
Warm-Up America! maintains a database of requests and fulfills them on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This is the first year that eight grade girls and boys of St. Paul School participated as knitters.
