Rummage Sale Raises Thousands for Princeton Academy

Sometimes one man’s junk can turn into treasure for an entire community.

Recently, the Princeton Academy Parent Association (PAPA) raised $7,200 with its 2013 fall Rummage Sale, one of its major fundraisers to help raise money for School events, activities and programs. The sale not only raised money for the School, but it brought together hundreds of parents, staff and faculty, students and fellow members of the community members.

PAPA member Teresa Cunningham, who coordinated the event, estimated there were about 75 volunteers alone who helped make the Rummage Sale a reality.

“If I can say one thing about this event, I would underscore its importance in satisfying multiple levels being one big, caring community,” said Cunningham. “We have so much to be grateful for – the parents are so generous and our boys see the value in donating and reusing. This is a terrific way to support our school with more than just money.”

It’s fundraisers such as these that make it possible for Princeton Academy to have class parties and community social events such as the tree lighting, spaghetti dinners, father/son gatherings and food and t-shirts for Field Day. It also goes toward ties for the eighth graders, holiday gifts for staff and faculty, Common Ground membership fees and community care expenses.

“Everyone’s contribution, whether it was time and talent, donated items or baked goods, played a part in the success,” said PAPA President Elizabeth Seruma. “The rummage sale is a great opportunity for the Princeton Academy community to come together and work collaboratively to benefit our boys and the community.”

The remaining items went to the Spirit Movers, a charity shop that distributes to 10 other South Jersey charity organizations.

“This is a really great community service project for our school because a lot of the patrons who shop the event really are in need on discounted items and merchandise,” added PAPA member Trish Dorey. “It should also be mentioned that all the volunteers who pulled these event together did this unconditionally for the students of Princeton Academy.”
