Percussion Ensemble, Childrens' Author Visit at Barnes & Noble

Looking for fun local events today? Here are some highlights.

The Barnes and Noble Princeton Book Fair Fundraiser, where Princeton's Cherry Hill Nursery School receives a percentage of all sales when you present a voucher or mention Cherry Hill Nursery School at time of purchase. Other events throughout the day include story time, craft time, face painting, and a scavenger hunt. 9 a.m. 

Brown Bag Series Lecture at The College of New Jersey. Discussion of a project to use Appalachian miners’ oral histories as well as original research as seed material for Radford University's’s performance of "The Shadow Waltz." The speakers will also discuss how the performance weaves miners’ stories with dance, music and text to reflect the history and mysterious pull of Appalachian coal mining. The Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall (Music Building), 11:30 a.m. 

Author event on Discovery Friday at Princeton Barnes & Noble. Paula Freedman will be in the kids' department for a discussion and a signing of her new book "My Basmati Bat Mitzvah." 4:30 p.m. 

TCNJ Percussion Ensemble, Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall (Music Building), The College of New Jersey, 8 p.m. 

Soprano Audra McDonald performs at McCarter Theatre.The star of Broadway, TV, movies, opera, and the concert stage won her fifth Tony Award for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, but that’s just one facet of a career that has included virtually every award and honor that the entertainment industry can convey, 8 p.m.
