Unlocking the Mystery of the Dead Sea Scrolls
Ever wondered about the mysterious and famous Dead Sea Scrolls? Dr. Shane Berg will help unlock their secrets over breakfast at Princeton United Methodist Church (PUMC), located at Nassau and Vandeventer, on Sunday, February 10 at 8 a.m.. Dr. Berg will discuss who wrote the Scrolls, what is in them, and what significance they have for understanding Jesus and the New Testament.
Berg earned his M.Div. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in New Testament and Ancient Christianity from Yale University. His first book, a technical study of concepts of revelation in the Dead Sea Scrolls, is due out later this year. He is currently in the preliminary stages of writing a more popular book that will explore the origins and rise of the idea of “scripture” in ancient Judaism and early Christianity. After serving on the faculty of Princeton Theological Seminary for 7 years as Assistant Professor of New Testament, Dr. Berg has recently become the Vice President of the Atlanta-based Macedonian Ministry Foundation. In this new role he is responsible for developing and overseeing a variety of programs that provide resources to help pastors become stronger and more effective leaders. He and his wife Corrie reside in Princeton and are the proud parents of three boys—Anders, Mathias, and Soren.
Though the breakfast is sponsored by the United Methodist Men, everyone is welcome; a $5 donation is suggested. Reservations are requested before Friday, February 8, call 609-924-2613 or email email@example.com
