Princeton Shopping Center is Being Sold

The sale is expected to close by June 1, tenants said.

The owners of the Princeton Shopping Center are in the process of selling and the sale is expected to close by June 1. Shopping Center tenants were sent estoppel letters last week, multiple tenants confirmed to Patch. A longtime tenant confirmed receipt of the letter and said the owner, George Comfort and Sons of New York, anticipates a closing by June 1. “That’s when we were told they were closing, that’s the goal,” said the tenant, who asked not to be identified. The Princeton Shopping Center is located at 301 N. Harrison Street and includes 55 shops and restaurants, a two-acre landscaped courtyard and extensive pedestrian pathways. Built in 1950, it was modeled on the design of an outdoor California mall. Two Lawsuits Filed Against Princeton Landlord

Two plaintiffs allege Sandford Zeitler has a pattern of renting space that can not be legally used, then evicting tenants and keeping their security deposits.

Constance Messinger was thrilled to rent a room at 205 Nassau Street late last year. It was close to her job and she paid nearly $2,000 as a security deposit and first month’s rent. But she said things turned sour the day she arrived to move in. Landlord Sanford Zeitler told her the room was no longer available. She asked for her security deposit back, but says Zeitler refused. Instead, he offered a $600-per month 7-foot by 11-foot closet in the back of a bathroom used by eight men, she said. “He said take the room or you leave,” Messinger said. Without money or options, she agreed to take the room. Four months later she said was forced to leave after learning the room was an illegal rental and the building infested with bedbugs. She …

Many long term residents are skeptical of the new facility bringing about a staff improvement from that of the old location. I have learned of mistreatment and threats towards patients at the new Merwick, why should there be changes. While a majority of doctors and professional staff have not in recent history been the cause, the hourly help has an established history and will continue to be a …   more ›

The Matalbes brothers are expanding their presence on East Nassau Street, with the new restaurant expected to open by Memorial Day.

More than seven years after taking over management of Hoagie Haven, the Maltabes brothers are opening a pizza restaurant next door on Nassau Street. Slice Between, located at 242 Nassau Street, is expected to open by Memorial Day, although the exact date is not yet final. “There are so many things going on,” said Costa Maltabes, who runs Hoagie Haven along with his brother Mike Maltabes. “I’m hoping for May 21, but I’m not going to promise anything.” Old World Pizza used to occupy the space, but moved out a couple of weeks ago, Costa Maltabes said. Can an Employer Force You to Reveal Your Facebook Password?

A state legislative committee approved a bill this week that would bar the practice.

Can an employer force you to reveal your Facebook or other social media password as a condition for getting hired or keeping your job? That issue began to get some attention in March after a statistician in New York reported that during an interview with a potential employer, the woman interviewing him had searched for his Facebook and, upon discovering that it was private, asked him for the password. The statistician, Justin Bassett, refused and left the interview according to the Associated Press. But the story brought to light other instances where employers have sought similar access to social media accounts, and have led several states to consider legislation to ban the practice. California's assembly voted Thursday to approve such …
