When police arrived on the scene, they found Benoit lying in the middle of the road. An investigation revealed that she Benoit had crossed North Harrison Street in the crosswalk but failed to activate the crosswalk signal by pushing the button. She was struck by a vehicle driven by

I work in the shopping center and live close by so I walk to my place of employment. The young lady hit is a co-worker of mine. Hardly a day goes by that I am not almost hit crossing at this intersection (Harrison & Valley). I usually don't cross halfway through the end of the light. Rather, pressing the button and waiting for the next light. This doesn't help becaus just last week my daughter and I were almost hit again. When people are turning left, they don't see you waving your arms until the front of their car is a foot from your feet. It is very scary. They need to replace the light with a left turn on arrow only!!!!

There was someone hit there a couple of months ago, too. Stacy, so glad your coworker's injuries weren't worse, that's such a scary thing to have happen.

There are two issues here in Princeton regarding pedestrian crossings: Cars that do not stop and pedestrians who don't know how to cross properly. I regularly see cars not stopping for people at cross walks and have almost been hit myself several times while walking around town. Then we have pedestrians who cross outside of crosswalks, often randomly walking out onto busy streets without so much as looking your way. Or pedestrians that you stop to let cross and they then proceed to walk across at the slowest possible speed, iPod headphones in their ears of course without even looking at you, like it's some sort of rebellious statement. Or how about what happens to me all the time...pedestrians (or people on bikes, but that's another topic) at night who are dressed all in black, casually walking in front of cars at night on darkened streets. This area not only has the most distracted and worst drivers I have seen in a long time but also some of the worst pedestrian behavior I have seen.
