Dudeck was one of three applicants for the job. The others were Interim Township Police Chief Christopher Morgan and Township Police Lt. Robert Toole. Three eligible Borough officers- Cpt. Nick Sutter, Lt. Sharon Papp and Lt. Robert Currier- did not apply.

"I have to say personally, not having had a lot of dealing with applicants for the position, that we should feel really happy with the talent we have in the community," Borough Administrator Bob Bruschi said. "We are clearly set up very well in our police department over the next 20 years. You have a really solid team that will lead the department."

Borough Council and Township Committee unanimously approved the Selection Committee's recommendation.

Neither Dudeck nor Toole was at the Tuesday's meeting. Morgan was upbeat about the decision.

"I’m happy for Dave," Morgan said. "I think he brings a lot of experience to new consolidated police department. I think collectively we will bring the two departments together and create a police department that the Princeton community will be proud of."

Next, the Selection Committee will begin discussions about who may be Princeton's administrator effective Jan. 1. Bruschi, one candidate, will face Township Interim Administrator Kathryn Monzo.
