Sister Helen Prejean, author of New York Times best-seller Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States, will speak at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at Stuart’s Cor Unum Center. The event is free of charge.
Sister Prejean is coming to Stuart as a featured speaker in Stuart’s Women in Leadership program. Her book was number one on the New York Times Best Seller List for 31 weeks. It also made the International Best Seller List, has been translated into ten different languages, and was made into a major motion picture for which Susan Sarandon won the Academy Award for her portrayal of Sister Prejean.
Sister Prejean has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue on the death penalty and helping to shape the Catholic Church’s newly vigorous opposition to state executions. She considers herself a southern storyteller and she travels around the world giving talks about her ministry.
